"A lake is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is Earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature."
Henry David Thoreau
A couple weeks ago on a Thursday I finally took the short trip up to Concord to Walden Pond.
Walden Pond |
I've been wanting to make the trip ever since I had to read Walden for a class a couple years ago, but since I lived in Maine at the time and it was winter, meaning snow and no hiking trails I was willing to walk, almost every time I came down to Mass for a visit, it was just never a good time to stop.

But now that I live in Mass again it was only a matter of time before I made the trip and since I had nothing to do the other day, I made the decision to go. I'm so glad I did, it's so beautiful out there and there's a lot of other things to do around Concord that it's a nice getaway for a day trip.
I'll definitely be making a few more trips out there this summer as it has now become a favorite spot of mine and the friends I took along with me.

If any of you are ever in the area stop by Walden, take a hike, look out at the view, swim, marvel and think about the conditions that Thoreau chose to live in over 100 years ago.
